It was a blast from the past for Stella Wedell, who stumbled across a cassette mixtape from her childhood that was lost at sea on vacation nearly 30 years before. The collection of songs by the then 12-year-old Wedell was initially found by artist Mandy Barker, who recovered the item over a thousand miles from where it was lost and put it in display in a Stockholm exhibit. After recognizing the tracklist as strangely familiar, Wedell pulled out an old photo she had and confirmed that it was indeed her playlist of ’93.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It was exactly the same tracklist, but starting with track three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I remember that I didn’t like the first two songs on the [original] CD because I felt they were too old so I wouldn’t have included them when I recorded the [cassette] mixtape\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Equally surprising is that after 18-months of drying and then going through an audio restoration process, the mixtape still works. Now with greater context, the piece will remain on display until the completion of Barker’s exhibit, before being sent back to its rightful owner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
