The last\u00a0time we properly saw Daft Punk was on stage at the 2014 Grammy Awards ceremony, where the duo\u00a0performed Get Lucky<\/em> and won big in\u00a0multiple categories. Now, thanks to a surprise revelation from Republic Records’ executive VP and head of urban A&R Wendy Goldstein, we know the robots are active again.<\/p>\n

In a recent ‘Hitmakers Roundtable’ video<\/a>\u00a0from Billboard, Goldstein casually dropped the news that Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo are in the studio with crossover R&B star The Weeknd.<\/p>\n

The panel of label executives and songwriters was asked which artists they’d most want to work with. “Actually, we have a session coming up in two days, with The Weeknd and Daft Punk,” Goldstein said. “I’ve always been a massive Daft Punk fan, and this is the first time that I\u2019ve actually been involved with an artist who\u2019s going to go and work with them.”<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, this tidbit doesn’t mean Daft Punk is working on its follow-up to Random Access Memories<\/em>. The collaboration is likely to turn up on The Weeknd’s next album, which follows 2015’s Beauty Behind the Madness<\/em>. The Weeknd recently\u00a0posted a photo<\/a> of Daft Punk figurines sitting on a speaker, following it up with\u00a0a snap of himself<\/a>\u00a0standing alongside Norwegian bass wizard Cashmere Cat in the studio.<\/p>\n

This of course wouldn’t be the first time Daft Punk have helped out a chart-topping star in the studio. Back in 2013, ahead of Random Access Memories<\/em>, the duo played a central role in the production for Kanye West’s album\u00a0Yeezus<\/em>. Their work on tracks including\u00a0Black Skinhead\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0I Am a God\u00a0<\/em>had a raw, visceral edge that didn’t come out on their own disco-indebted album.\u00a0Adding to the symmetry, Cashmere Cat co-produced Wolves\u00a0<\/em>from\u00a0Kanye’s most recent album\u00a0The Life of Pablo<\/em>.<\/p>\n

This\u00a0Daft Punk diehards might’ve preferred news of a tour or an album in development, it’s good to know Thomas and Guy-Man haven’t decided to disappear.<\/p>\n
