It’s become one of the most reliable fixtures on the festival calendar, consistently bringing huge international acts to Australia along with top-shelf local talent each New Year’s. Falls has already let everybody know they’ve stepped things up again for their next edition, announcing an expansion into WA with a new downtown format. Now they’ve just announced the first taste of their upcoming 2016/2017 line-up.
Childish Gambino, aka Donald Glover, is no stranger to Australian shores. In fact, he’s pretty bloody well-loved, having last been in the country as 2015 Listen Out headliner. The multi-faceted talent is the first act announced on the upcoming Falls bill. The hype is only set to build with the release of mysterious new album Pharos, due out later in the year.
Falls has grown massively since its first instalment at Lorne in 1993, growing into a truly national festival with editions in Tassie’s Marion Bay, growing into Byron Bay in 2013, and now taking over WA with a maiden Fremantle edition. Last year’s festival in Lorne underwent a remarkable last minute change in location due to the threat of bushfire.
The full 2016/2017 line-up will be announced Tuesday August 23. See dates and locations below.
