This vintage Ultra Music Festival footage is the best thing you’ll see today

Next month, Ultra Music Festival Miami will turn the grand old age of 20 — and true to form, they’re gonna throw one hell of a party.

Their 20th birthday line-up includes basically every dance A-lister on the planet, including Eric Prydz, David Guetta, Carl Cox, DJ Snake, Armin Van Buuren, Hardwell, Tiesto, RL Grime, Maceo Plex, Sasha, John Digweed, and more. It’s also heavily rumoured that EDM kings Swedish House Mafia will be reuniting for a one-off performance at the festival, after saying goodbye on the Ultra Miami stage five years ago.

The global festival brand has come a very long way since 1999, when it debuted as a small rave on the Miami beachfront headlined by (then) young guns Josh Wink and Paul van Dyk. In honour of their impending birthday, Ultra has just shared some rare footage of their scrappy inaugural event, interspersed with interviews from dance veterans like Nic Fanciulli, Tiesto, and John Digweed.

There might not be any pyrotechnics or CO2 cannons — but there’s plenty of speed dealers, rave pants, glow sticks, and plenty of PLUR. Watch the footage below.
