Ultra Music Festival organizers put forth a proposal to host the festival on Virginia Key, moving the festival from its original Bayfront Park location 10 minutes away. The proposal was brought to a vote on November 15 at the Miami City Council in the midst of opposition from Rapture Music Festival and residents of Key Biscayne.
The council approved Ultra’s proposal to move the music festival to Miami Marine Stadium and Historic Virginia Key Beach Park in Virginia Key after three hours of contentious deliberation and a vote. There was a 4-1 vote in favor of the move, with two council members on the edge of a “yes” vote.
In the deal, Ultra has to pay $2 million to the city of Miami in order to sell up to 60,000 tickets to the festival. The contract will stay in place for two years, with the possibility of revocation within 60 days after the festival if certain circumstances occur.
