As Halloween weekend comes to a close, another US festival joins the company of Electric Zoo as some of the unlucky few to actually have to close its doors following fatal drug-related incidents. Seattle’s famed FreakNight, the Halloween themed weekend show with headliners Kaskade, Tiësto, Alesso and more, made a last minute decision to cancel the show’s second day following news of 20-year old male’s death after the first night of the event. The cancellation, a choice moved forward by both the CenturyLink venue and USC Events, was agreed upon after the official police report came in at 4 PM on Sunday. Several eager attendees had already arrived by the time the decision was publicized on Facebook, but both organizations have announced that information regarding refunds will be posted this coming Monday.
“Unfortunately there are unconfirmed reports of a fatality associated with FreakNight Festival. Out of an abundance of caution, late on Saturday a decision was made to cancel the second night of the event,” FreakNight’s official Facebook page reads. “The health and safety of all our attendees is our top priority. These reports are very unfortunate and we are deeply saddened at the possibility of them being true.”
Several reports have since confirmed that the male attendee’s death was due to a ‘Molly’ drug overdose. 16 others were taken to the hospital the same Friday evening, 6 of which are suspected to be related to drug use as well. One other attendee, confirmed to have overdosed on the same drug, remains in critical condition as of Saturday evening.
