Twitch, a live streaming platform for video gaming, is inching its way into the music world. Twitch Music Library and its beta Music category are two of the site’s newest additions, with the former serving as a catalog of songs pre-cleared for Twitch broadcasters to use live. Notable dance labels that have contributed to Twitch Music Library, free of charge, include Dim Mak, Mad Decent, Spinnin’ Records, OWSLA, Monstercat and Fool’s Gold. In total, more than 500 songs have already been featured.

Twitch’s beta Music category, on the other hand, is specially designed for artists to use for producing and launching original music. Steve Aoki, deadmau5, and Porter Robinson are just a few electronic artists that often use the platform to play games before their fans, and now music can come into play as a vital aspect to their Twitch personas.

As always, the Twitch community will be able to view performances such as concerts and music festivals. “Radio shows” devised by certain labels will also become available; Twitch’s first collaboration with Monstercat, titled ‘Monstercat FM,’ is a 24-hour music channel that can be used by broadcasters as a radio-style music player during their stream. It seems as though there may be more in store for video gamers and musicians than one may have initially thought.
