Hear Boys Noize remix the ultimate electro classic ’Planet Rock’

Category: EDM NEWS

Electro classics don’t get much more pioneering than Afrika Bambaataa & The Soulsonic Force’s 1982 anthem Planet Rock, the track that kickstarted the entire genres of electro and breakbeat, introduced the 808 into dance music and inspired generations of techno, house and hip hop producers.

So who better to draft in for a remix of the epic original than Berlin’s electro and techno don Boys Noize? The shapeshifting producer has joined Montreal beatsmith Lunice in contributing remixes of Planet Rock to a limited edition Record Store Day 12-inch re-issue, featuring the original, an instrumental and the two remix versions.

As for the edit itself, Boys Noize takes a light touch, paring back the MCing and embellishing the iconic beat and synths with some deft futuristic touches. The edit will be used in an upcoming documentary on the Roland TR-808 and its influence of dance and hip hop music.

You can pick up a limited copy of the 12-inch by racing in to your nearest physical record store on 16 April aka Record Store Day, or by holding tight for the digital release: info to come soon. In the meantime, hear Boys Noize remix a classic below.
