Check out Ta-ku’s powerful photos of musical legends

Category: EDM NEWS

Perth auteur Ta-ku is quite the Renaissance man. Besides making emotive, understated beat-based music that’s adored by everyone from tastemaker Gilles Peterson to LA’s Soulection crew, he’s also a professional barber, apparel designer, DJ and selector, and an avid photographer.

Ta-ku’s been taking his camera with him on travels around the world for the past few years, and anyone who follows him on social media will know he’s got quite the knack for stunning shots of cityscapes and remote wilderness. But the polymath producer is also a dab hand at shooting intimate portraits of his musical heroes and contemporaries, as you’ll see below.

Sony recruited Ta-ku as an ambassador for their Alpha range of cameras, and sent him out to shoot a stack of local and international musical legends, like Questlove from The Roots and Jaden Smith, as well as locals Wafia, KLP, and Joyride and The Meeting Tree.

We’ve got a selection of exclusive portraits of locals (plus shots of Questlove and Jaden Smith) by Ta-ku below: scroll down to check them out (and tap the photos to see them full screen).

To see the rest of the portraits in Sony’s Alpha Art House series, hit up the exhibitions in Sydney (at Customs House between 9 – 15 March), Brisbane (at King George’s Square between 17-23 March) and Melbourne (at Federation Square between 4-10 April). And for more from Ta-ku, scroll down below the photos to watch his hilarious and insightful keynote chat with Gilles Peterson at last year’s EMC in Sydney.
