David Guetta pays tribute to Frankie Knuckles at Chicago show

House music mourns an icon this month after the passing of Frankie Knuckles, who played a major role in the growth Chicago’s dance culture dating back to the 1980′s. The latest tribute to Frankie comes from David Guetta, who honored the late DJ in the city which claims his deepest roots.

“I started to DJ a very long time ago when I was 14, and I was playing funk and disco, and one day I discovered house music and it changed my life,” Guetta began. He goes on to attribute the first records he’d purchased to the influence of Chicago, where “the biggest pioneer was Frankie Knuckles.” As he moved into playing early records inspired by Frankie, a visual in memoriam was portrayed on the booth’s screen with the message – Thank You.
