Three years in the making and bred between two of the most essential melodic assets to modern dance music, the release of Axwell’s remix of Hook N Sling‘s “Tokyo By Night” this month puts to bed one of Axtone’s most hotly anticipated releases of the past decade. Initially thought to be collaboration between the Swedish heavyweight and his Australian label mate, the label’s follow-up to disco-teaser “Arms Around Me” returns to a remit somewhat perfected by the sparing imprint to date.

The down time since its initial teasing in 2011 sees the long awaited remix armed with a considerable charge of melodic stamina. Karin Park’s haunting vocal work sits comfortably around the track’s reworked chord play, chugging and flowing with that signature Axtone energy to establish a track as hot on the merits of big room ascendancy as it is deviously testing of the modern progressive house movement. One wouldn’t have expected any less from this dream team of international cohorts or an artist whose ability to deal in IDs comes unparalleled, but “Tokyo By Night” plays as a contender for one of the most important house records of 2014 so far.
