Last June, Diplo hit up former Dawson’s Creek actor James Van Der Beek to star in ‘Day In The Life Of Diplo‘, a short skit filmed to help promote his run of Mad Decent Block Parties.
The video, in which Van Der Beek hilariously rips on superstar DJ culture, became so popular it inspired the idea for a new Viceland show: What Would Diplo Do.
The six-episode series will see Van Der Beek take his Diplo character out on the road for a mockumentary best described as: “Louie meets WorldStar HipHop crossed with This Is Spinal Tap.” According to the real Diplo — who is one of the show’s executive producers — it lands “somewhere between iconic and ironic.”
It’s set to premiere on August 3, and we’ve just now copped our first look at the series — check it out below, and revisit the original skit below that.
Apart from Van Der Beek, the show will feature cameos from fellow dance act (and resident funnyman) Dillon Francis, as well as Friday Night Lights star Dora Madison, who will play Diplo’s long suffering assistant Karen.
