Australia is getting another New Year’s festival

In 2017 Australia will get another New Year’s festival, care of one of the founders of the now-defunct Future Music Festival.

Promoter Mark James – who launched the Future empire together with Jason Ayoubi in 2000 – has shared plans for his next venture, a NYD festival called Those Were The Dayze. You can bet that the event name is a nod to Future’s former New Year’s festivals Summadayze and Summafieldayze, which ran from 2003 until 2012. Keeping with the throwback theme, Those Were The Dayze says it want punters to “party like its [sic] 1999″.

So far, Melbourne is the only city on the Those Were The Dayze itinerary and it’s being billed as a “Phuture Entertainment Production”.

Those Were The Dayze is elbowing into what’s become the busiest time on the Australian festival calendar. Over the past few years, new events Lost Paradise, Beyond the Valley and Let Them Eat Cake have all set up around New Year’s, sharing acts with mainstays Falls Festival, Southbound, Origin NYE and Field Day.

Future Music Festival’s last year was in 2015, though Mark James reportedly bowed out of the company before then.
